Model Rocketry is a fun, safe hobby for all ages.  Depending on the rocket kit, it can be built in as little as 15 minutes, and can take up to a month or longer.

For me, the fun is in building and painting these models.  Of course, it is always fun to see your babies being launched into the heavens with the hope that it descends back in one piece.
